Maximum Indian Internet users reside in Mumbai

According to recent survey by Internet And Mobile Association Of India (IAMAI), for Internet users in metros, Mumbai ranks first in Internet users’ list in India. Total number of users using Internet in Mumbai is 2.6 million. Apni Delhi stands second with 1.8 million users which accounts to the 67% of the total active users. Surprisingly, Chennai and Bangalore are fourth and fifth in the list and they haven’t even touched mark of 2 million users. Active Internet users are minimum in Pune.

For comparison of metros with small towns in India, small towns are picking up fastly as compared to metros.

 

Among the ever user category, the share of top 8 metros has declined from 58 per cent in 2001 to 41 per cent in 2006. The corresponding decline in the active users is from 90 per cent in 2001 to 77 per cent in 2006.

 

 

As per other details, in sector of Internet apps,

Traditional favorites e-mail & chat continue to be dominant across top 8 metros, especially in Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad except in Mumbai, where information search dominates Proportion of users accessing Internet mainly for jobs and matrimony and e-commerce is highest in Kolkata, followed by Ahmedabad and Pune.
