Firewall error

My PC got so popular that I started getting the intrusion attacks – as my system administrator notified me :D. So I was suggested by Abhishek to check my firewall settings. And when I tried to open the Windows Firewall either by going to Control Panel or running firewall.cpl command, I got following error –

Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings

For a while I felt panicked especially when I was warned just few minutes ago by Vinod that my PC can be sacrificed anytime but then there is always a solution to every problem (blue screen is the only exception ;)). And when you need solution, my first rescue spot is Internet. I found the solution on Microsoft Support website which went like –

You cannot start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2

There are only 3 steps in short to get off with this problem –

1. Open command prompt and run following command –

Rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection Ndi-Steelhead 132 %windir%\inf\netrass.inf

2. Restart Windows (I know that hurts 🙁 but it is your data)

3. Run following command on command prompt –

Netsh firewall reset

Its don’t. Now you can open your firewall and customize it accordingly.
