Umpires looked like bribed in India Australia Cricket match

India lost second Border / Gavaskar trophy match against Australia after losing its last 3 wickets in 6 remaining balls of match – thanks to one-sided decisions of Umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson during whole match.

When you find that two of the players which were NOT OUT but were declared OUT in first innings and in the same way, during second innings of same team, four key players which were clearly NOT OUT but given OUT by the match umpires Steve Bucknor and Mark Benson, you know that somewhere something is going wrong.

Also, when opposition team is favored by umpires for their batting, you start feeling hatred towards them which is natural.

And in such situation when our poor team loses match, more than being sorry for them, if someone abuses umpires feeling frustrated for them, you feel better to support him.

The second test match was total blunder full of umpiring mistakes. Umpires which are taken with utmost request in a match, the Gods of match, looked too small in this test. Steve Bucknor is well known for his sick behavior towards Indian team and he was atop in this game when India lost a well-expected Draw match. Then a good sport lover of game is supposed to be angry for these two pranksters of match who thought that they can even prove the match cameras wrong.

Throughout the match, Australians were appealing and umpires were raising their fingers for players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly etc. Some of batsmen tried to show disapproval to umpires’ decision but of no output. And this all was for making Australia achieve their 16th consecutive win. Not even single Australian felt sorry for wrong umpiring decisions (I was expecting it from Australian Captain Ricky Ponting at least).

Result…I am no more going to believe that umpires are always right – something my dad taught me during my childhood while making me understand this game!

Update (January 07, 2008): Thwarted BCCI has decided to put forward suggestion for change in ICC rules so that there shouldn’t be any doubt about Umpiring decisions for the teams visiting Australia. Here are the proposed guidelines –

(1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED ) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE .

(2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball flies anywhere close to the AUSTRALIAN FIELDER(WITHIN 5 meter distance), the batsman is to be considered OUT irrelevant of whether the catch was taken cleanly or grassed. Any decision for further clarification should be asked from the FOURTH UMPIRE. This is made to ensure that the cricket is played with SPORTIVE SPIRIT by all the teams.

(3) While BATTING, AUSTRALIAN players will wait for the ON-FIELD UMPIRE decisions only (even if the catch goes to the FIFTH SLIP as the ball might not have touched the bat). Each AUSTRALIAN batsman has to be out FOUR TIMES (minimum) before he can return to the pavilion. In case of THE CRICKETER WITH INTEGRITY, this can be higher.

(4) UMPIRES should consider a huge bonus if an AUSTRALIAN player scores a century. Any wrong decisions can be ignored as they will be paid huge bonus and will receive the backing of the AUSTRALIAN team and board.

(5) All AUSTRALIAN players are eligible to keep commenting about all players on the field and the OPPONENT TEAM should never comment as they will be spoiling the spirit of the AUSTRALIAN team. Any comments made in any other language are to be considered as RACIALISM only.

(6) MATCH REFREE decisions will be taken purely on the AUSTRALIAN TEAM advices only. Player views from the other teams decisions will not be considered for hearing. MATCH REFREES are to be given huge bonus if this rule is implemented.

(7) NO VISITING TEAM should plan to win in AUSTRALIA. This is to ensure that the sportive spirit of CRICKET is maintained.

(8) THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE : If any bowler gets RICKY PONTING – "THE UNDISPUTED CRICKETER WITH INTEGTIRY IN THE GAME OF CRICKET" more than twice in a series, he will be banned for the REST OF THE SERIES. This is to ensure that the best batsman/Captain will be played to break records and create history in the game of CRICKET .

These rules will clarify better to the all teams VISITING AUSTRALIA.

Regards,

BCCI

Board of Director’s

Thanks Gaurav & Amit!

  1. In view of the farse in the second test match and ugly cricket played by the austrialians, Indian board should pull back their team from australia and severe all cricketing realtionships with theam. Australians must be banned from playing cricket for next two years in all international level by ICC. Austrilians should not be allowed to bring the glorious game of cricke to any more disrepute. They must be taught moral lessons and righteousness and asked to do public service like public toilet cleaning. Cheaters are punished under law. And if you are cheating in the full view of 100 crore people we can’t allow it. They are Australian crickets are criminals in the view of hundred crore Indians. If they go out of the stadium they could be arrested for con’ing the Indian team and the whole world.

Also umpires should be criminally procecuted and later publically executed.

  2. It is the Indian attitude that is a discrace to cricket. The burning of effigies, threatening to pull out of the tour, openly attacking the umpires and plain sour grapes. These are the qualities of a team and a country that takes cricket too seriously. Counterfactually this represents the mindset of a team that places winning (or from an Indian’s perspective, the performance of a Dravid, a Tendalkar, a Ganguly etc.) above the GAME. If the Indians understood that this was a game, win or loose, the backlash would not be drowned in nationalistic fervour.

On the point of Harbhajan Singh’s sentence for ‘racially’ abusing Andrew Symonds it was made clear from the beginning of this series – as an effort to stop the sort of racial vilification he faced earlier from Indian spectators, and lets not forget the BCCI’s initial attempt to deny the incident had ever happened – that racism would not be tolerated in any form. This was agreed to by all involved. It is a serious act of misconduct and must be treated seriously. It is not something that can be resolved on the field or behind closed doors because a racist comment is directed against a people, not a person. It is a public issue and must be dealt with publicly. Ponting was acting as all responsible people would by reporting the misconduct to the on-field authorities.

Yes the umpiring was poor and did ‘assist’ the Australians more than the Indians, but the video ‘evidence’ portrayed on this blog is silent about those that assisted the Indians – in particular Harbhajan Singh’s dismissal of Ponting in the 1st.

Finally, the popular opinion on Indian blogs that the Australians cheated is no less than silly. The umpires were neutral (unlike on tours of India in the ’70s and ’80s when they were parochially Indian in bias) and are a separate issue. The most incensed comments surround Clarke’s catch and Ponting’s catch appeal. In the case of the first, it was agreed prior to the series by Ponting and Kumble that the determination of whether a low catch was in fact a catch would be the prerogative of the fielder first before tv got involved. If there is anger about Ganguly’s dismissal perhaps it should be directed to Kumble for agreeing to those terms. As to Ponting’s, I was surprised to see that there is some animosity about his 2nd innings appeal because when he landed with ball in hand there is no doubt he had complete control of the ball. And lets not forget that in the first innings he opted to refuse a catch appeal of his own when even the replays were inconclusive.

Before attacking the way Australians play take a look at where this anger arises or else keep assuring yourself it is not a cover for being sore losers.

  3. This reflects your opinion and definitely you are in mood of defending for your team. Perhaps that’s why you don’t want to see other side of coin. Therefore I also wouldn’t say anything in return but would definitely love to watch the videos of Umpires assisting Australians at any point in match!

Was disappoing to know the image you possess of Indians but looks like you just want to know that much only which is quite blurred and not interested in – what they are better at.

It had been much better if you did post any link to online articles from trusted source which talks about Umpires favoring Australian team. Looks like you are out of resources in that case.

  4. I understand that the blog ‘master’ (or whatever word applies I’m honestly not sure) is in jest but I maintain the point that much of what has been said about Ponting ‘commandeering’ in this match has been consented to by Kumble prior to the series. Therefor the joke is partly on the Indian captain. If he had preferred to leave everything up to the umpires (and after Sydney he would not have liked too) then he should have disaggreed to the arrangement.

  5. Roy, Once again I am repeating that it would be better if you prove your words with appropriate proofs or refrain from spaming. I am waiting for few links from you to verify whatever you said and would be happy to provide them to my readers.

So next time you drop by, kindly also drop few links 🙂
