Shuzak writes about Why are geeks often atheist where he mentions following interesting points –
…’geeks tend to be different, so they look beyond the mainstream religious explanations’. However, several other explanations have been proposed as well, one of them being that given the social aspects of religion, a person who does not particularly care about socialization, or interpersonal interactions might find some of the allure gone.
And regarding the way geeks look into things is the approach of simplest explanation –
It might make sense to think that many such geeks simply find something as simple as a creator an overly simplistic explanation for something so elegant.
“The absence of proof does not mean there is no proof at all” and hence,
geeks are not atheists simply because they may know “more” but also because they choose to think differently
And there is interesting comparison between Prison and Work for first time in Prison vs. Work. Yes it is not another Prison and Work post about similarities between two but what are the differences between them :). The ones that I liked the most are –
IN PRISON: You spend the majority of your time in a 10X10 cell.
AT WORK: You spend the majority of your time in an 8X8 cubicle.
IN PRISON: They allow your family and friends to visit.
AT WORK: You aren’t even supposed to speak to your family.
IN PRISON: You must deal with sadistic wardens.
AT WORK: They are called managers.
(I would like to confess that I haven’t met such manager so far /Touch wood/…but would definitely mention if I ever got one…of course, the day I left him 😉 )
IN PRISON: You get your own toilet.
AT WORK: You have to share the toilet with some people who pee on the seat.
(But there are people like SG who prefer something else which is much more interesting to know! In his way, you make others to share their toilet with you 😉 )
