Dhoom II

First thing first – For me, it appeared to be a movie which is inspired (or copied ) from different Hollywood movies as well as Hollywood characters. So, it didn’t worked for me at all.

To start with, as every movie-buff in India knows that movie wasn’t shown in any PVRs/DTs/Multiplexes in India , on Friday, except one at PVR Grand Surjit , Aligarh UP ( the latest PVR), so one had to manage with the local theatres if one has to watch it on Friday. So were we. Chunky found the theatre playing Dhoom: II/D: II/ Dhoom 2 after waiting for long till 1900 if any DT or PVR is going to play movie. So, we all were going to watch it at Payal theatre. It was going to be second theatre experience for me in a year and first at Gurgaon after the one at my home town. We, the group of 10 were there at Payal to get the tickets and tickets were still available – 10 minutes before the show. After all, not everyone manages to go down upto that level 8). It was the biggest crew of ours went to watch movie together…me, Pankaj, Anish, Kanav, Rajat, Kunal, Deepak, Vikram, HR (Hritik R…) plus one. Movie tickets were arranged but everyone had impression that we have the seat numbers on tickets until Kanav found that there were no seat numbers at all. So we had to rush for capturing 10 consecutive seats in balcony and after some struggle, we got 10 seats in a row. Now, I wouldn’t be explaining the inner ambiance of theatre…it wasn’t much different from my previous experience . All I would say that there were no girls. Only guys all over in the theatre.

Movie starts with a robbery in a pleasant desert of Namibia with A/Aryan (Hritik) coming down to the running train using parachute and stealing the crown with the trickery of camouflage…but then when he stops the bullets…rather the shot-gun shots with his skates, it gives feel of some typical Rajnikanth/Mithun movie. Then, where have I seen desert skating before?…nowhere!! The second scene of Ali (Uday Chopra) and karela cop Jai (Abhishek Bachchan), appears to be another larger than life act when Ali is standing in front of mobster and he isn’t firing him at all, rather looking at Abhishek to start the fight scene…HA and came out of my mouth – “Good that I didn’t go to watch this movie in PVR.”

Movie is all about the chase game between a Cop and a thief specially when you don’t get to see the bikes all over the movie – the expectations which most of the viewers had with them while going for watching the movie. There are no more much bike stuff and for the first half, you have to adhere yourself to the thief running of skates while being chased by the cops. But one thing which you really like about him is that this is a burglar equipped with tech gadgets and machines plus he is an artist. He likes to hear songs and drinks coffee. He is a high profile guy who thinks big and hence manages to steal (or should I say…strike) big deals ;M).

Then enters A with an ultimate dance steps on Dhoom Again. After song, again, few more goof-ups. Why the hell Mumbai police talking about a thief who has been stealing all over the word but hasn’t entered in India? Then, for the disappointment to the techies, when did to saw this act – hit eight key-strokes with-in 1 second on keypad of your laptop using your right hand and a nice graph will be in front of you. Jay did it once again after Dhoom. And just from the locations on the graph, he starts discussing about the dates on which robberies were made by thief A. And when did we know that there are only two places in Mumbai where a BIG robbery can be made?

Uday, as always, has done a marvelous job in the movie by making you laugh now and then otherwise it was all about chase or Hide & Seek game between a cop and a perfect burglar – as cop says. Uday has made this sequel lively than it had been without him. I surprise how Priyadarshan has managed to ignore this guy.

Ohhh, how can I forget to talk about Ash/Aishwarya Rai. Well, let me start with, she was the only actress I liked but now I don’t like her anymore. I liked her because of her attitude but it seems that she has also compromised with it. It looked very clear that she was copying Angelina Jolly. She was dressed like Angelina in Tomb Raider. She talked like Angelina. She had everything like Angelina even she tanned her down to Angelina’s color. So here comes our desi Angie. And I have lost my favorite actress. She is no more in my favorite list which is too small to be discussed about. Perhaps, it could be demand of director for her to act like Angie but then, where the attitude thing went? And over that, Abhishek’s reaction as being reported by the media that he didn’t knew about Yashraj going for the smooch scene, feeling cheated by Aish. For going behind his back, unknowing about the lip-lock etc, etc. Enough of publicity stunt has been made. There was another stunt by showing babe upto neck in the trailer making people mistake her for Aish. Of course, it was Bips. We knew it, right!

It was a bit good to see Aish-Hritik pair on the screen – the damsel and Dow-eyed pair. They rocked. they went international for robbery thing. They made cops sweat. They made love. And finally escaped in a very heroic way. Starting from deserts of Namibia, then to the Mumbai and finally landing in Brazil – Aryan made his mark everywhere and Sunehari (Aishwarya) acted as a perfect partner to him. The disguise thing is direct copy…then the chase of an international thief by an Indian cop. There are so many Hollywood inspirations which can be found in the movie.

The movie has a strong dialogue spun built around it and which holds the plot tight with top of the charts crossfires and one liners. Dialogues played a big role in making this movie go into hearts of audiences. Then the background music is beautiful art-work. Anish was all the way asking about the tracks…the songs of movie are so so but then choreography and the dance of Hritik overpowers it. The SFX and actions are awesome. One can’t remain away praising those larger-than-life stunts and the emptiness of bike struggles filled by the last 20 minute power-chase between Aryan and Ali + Jai.

Shonali and Monali Bose (Bips/Bipasha) – the twins, one cop and other NRI @ Brazil…funda worked a bit when Uday was involved. They made people giggle in the hall after every few moments. It was for first time that she was liked a bit.

Once again, Abhishek had to satisfy himself by a weak role which disappears for long scenes in between the movie. He has played like a supporting actor in movie. Then Rimi Sen was repeated just for couple of minutes to show her as a pregnant and jealous wife.

According to me, the main perpetrator behind the justice of characters in movie is the story which can be told in just few words – A cop chases a thief with the help of a spy which turns into thief’s buff and finally, betrays her rescuer…to some extent!!

In short, if you want to have a reason to watch this movie, go for the beautiful locations, stunts of Hritik and laughs delivered by Uday…you wouldn’t be disappointed. Don’t expect more than that because if you still thinking that Ash will have something to show when you have already watched Tomb Raider and Original Sin, forget it.

In the end, I would like to say, although this movie wasn’t what I had expected but this sequl has been added in my favorite movie-list…after all it is all about PASSION!

Kya koi kisi se itna pyar kar sakta hai ke vo uss ki jaan le le?
