Command prompt tab completion feature in Windows

For all those die-hard coders who love keyboard much more than mouse, they must be knowing about this feature when working on command prompt that when you have to type a long, really long word/file name/directory name, you just type few starting cars and press tab, rest is taken care by command line to complete the whole word, provided the written characters correspont to initials on unique file/dir.

But this feature, disappointingly, disabled in Win 2000. Therefore, in order to enable this feature, here is the reg hack (Standard registry disclaimer applies – don’t do this unless you know what you’re doing since you can render a box un-bootable with sufficient registry tweaking.):

Set HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\CompetionChar to 9
